This show is dedicated to Karachi’s need to get back up every time it gets hit. Otherwise this city will never survive.

What now…

I’m not a Comedian full-time like my friend Saad Haroon. I do the jokes part-time and spend most of the rest of my waking life as a Producer for a local news channel.

Day before yesterday I got the tickets and posters for my October 28th Stand-up Show back from the printers and they looked fantastic.

Yesterday I stood next to a garishly decorated truck watching people picking up bodies and cleaning the minced body parts off of the street where someone decided the best way to lodge a protest was to kill 120 people.

The last big show I did was 10 days after the Earthquake that hit Muzaffarabad and Balakot. That time I felt like people needed to laugh just to help recover from the nationalt trauma we were facing.

Since then, trauma has become so natural and everyday for Karachiites that we barely register it for more than a few minutes. But I am still thinking, maybe I should call off the show. Maybe it is too soon.

Would you come?  Or is it disrespectful to Karachi.

ALL SYSTEMS ARE…GAH!!

Auditorium’s booked. Posters and tickets designed. Promotions and marketing sorted.

And then last night I dream I’m standing in the PACC auditorium 5 minutes before the show is to start. The audience barely stretches past the back row and most of it is rowdy and aggressive. The lights go down and I am ready to start the show. And then I remember I left my entire set list at home. And I don’t remember what the material is anymore. And the audience starts getting angry. And I have no stand-up material anymore because I never did in the first place.

And that ’s what I woke up from a few hours back.

It’s time to make multiple copies of all the material and leave them in the car and in my bedroom and in the office and if possible taped to the PACC ceiling.

Official announcement to be made soon. Date is set though as October 28th. So no excuses from any of you. Come watch me panic and run screaming from the stage.
